Lake George Landscape Wall Art

Adirondacks in the Fall - Prints

Feeling very grateful after spending the entire month of October in the Adirondacks, more specifically in Lake George, NY. And what a time it was to be there with the fall foliage in all it’s glory. After living in a place essentially without seasons (San Diego), it was refreshing to be around all that color. I did some shooting for a regional magazine which required a lot of hiking around the lake up Pilot Knob Trail, Black Mountain Trail, and Cat Mountain Trail. The main focus was to shoot hiking, but of course the surroundings were so inspiring that I had to make some landscape photographs along the way. Can you call these landscapes?? I suppose they are more abstract nature photographs.

Duck Hunting Photography

Duck Hunting Photographer

Views From The Duck Blind

People that have never been duck hunting probably picture something much different from the reality. I was certainly guilty of that myself. From the first time I pushed off a canoe into a marsh, those preconceived ideas were changed, and I was hooked. Being cold and wet doesn’t appeal to most, but wind and storms generally produce the most action, so you learn to love it. If you’re lucky enough to be in a marsh during a storm, and have the patience to put your gun down, you’re in for a beautiful show. The familiar landscape in front of you can change by the minute, producing colors and textures you just can’t find anywhere else.

These images were made in Turkey Point, Ontario, Canada.

Vancouver Island Rainforest Photography

Rainforest Photography - Canada

Although the camera allows me to earn a living, I still consider it a hobby as well. A few weeks ago Emily and I took a last minute trip to Vancouver Island. We hung out in Victoria for a few days, then drove up to the small surfing town of Tofino (more on that in the next post). All along the way there is so much to see, including rainforests. We took a couple casual strolls through them, camera in hand, without any expectations or plans to shoot. Now, I’d never classify myself as a “nature” or “landscape” photographer. I’m just a photographer. Meaning that making pictures pleases me. Pictures of anything. Doesn’t matter if the images will ever be seen, published, or licensed. The act alone is reward. Especially when it comes to subjects like the rainforest. No idea what will be done with these, but so what? One of the many things I’ve learned over the years, is you don’t have to know. Maybe they won’t go anywhere. Or maybe this is the start of something that won’t be realized for years to come. Either way, they were fun to make. It’s only natural being inspired to make images in places like this, as it feels more like being in a science fiction movie than it did real life.
