Utah Road Trip

It doesn’t seem too abstract to think that the deserts of Utah are closer to what you’d see on Mars than most other places here on earth. Exploring the back roads of the 45th state is a visual feast for anyone inclined towards massive alien landscapes that appear to go on forever. 2008 was my first cross country road trip which happened to coincide with a move from Upstate New York to San Diego, California. The route was planned a week before on Mapquest and printed on paper. This was long before Iphones or Google Maps, so getting lost was a lot more consequential than it is today. That eye opening drive found us in the heart of Utah when the gas light went on, instituting an immediate fear of being left for dead after a 360 degree scan of the land showed no gas stations or any sign of civilization for that matter. Just massive sea of rocks and sky for what seemed like hundreds of miles. So we did our best to coast, hoping the fumes would land us at a gas station or a payphone. An hour later we puttered into a small town. Inside the gas station was a t-shirt for sale that read “I ran out of gas here in Emory, Utah.” I’ve been completely hooked on the road ever since.

About the prints: all prints are made with a white border to make framing easy with or without a mat.
