Photographs of Jackson, Mississippi

If you wander into Jackson, Mississippi without an ounce of knowledge about it, you quickly wonder why not. Jackson is a small city but there is still a very tangible atmosphere of a deep history in it’s roots. The gritty outskirts have a unique vibe that signifies you’ve come to a different place. Then within a few blocks you’re in a clean urban area surrounded by beautiful architecture of government buildings, cathedrals, and other Southern structures that have obviously take more than a few laps around the sun. It’s been quite a while since a location left a historical impression on me like Jackson and to my knowledge there isn’t another city in the country that has the same feel. Truth be told, the only reason I made it a point to go there is because Johnny Cash found the place interesting enough to write a song about. So you’d naturally believe there had to be something behind his motivation.
