BROOKLYN BARBERSHOP PRINT
Canarsie Barbershop- Brooklyn, New York
The Russian barber spoke broken English at this shop in Canarsie - a neighborhood in the Southeast corner of Brooklyn. And from the time I walked in he was very weary, even after I told him all about this project that’s been going on for 10+ years. He said no to the request of making pictures but he kept talking, perhaps just trying to feel me out. Question after question for 10+ minutes, just him and I in the shop alone. Beautiful late afternoon sunshine was pouring in through the windows, so all I thought about was the missed photographs. Then out of nowhere, in a thick Russian accent he yelled “OK OK YOU TAKE PICTURE!”
