McClean’s Barbershop - Hyannis, Cape Cod, Massachusetts

Cape Cod, Massachusetts has been an annual family trip for as long as I can remember, but Hyannis has never been a part of the Cape we visited. So you can imagine the surprise, finding McClean’s Barbershop while poking around town in 2013, waiting for Emily’s bus to come in from Logan International. Stan McClean and his brothers had been happily operating on this corner of Hyannis for decades. Years after photographing there, Stan’s wife reached out asking for a copy of the book as her husband was in poor health. He passed at 90. Afterward she reached out again, looking for help finding a buyer for the shop because she wanted to keep it a barbershop and dreaded the day her husbands place turned into a nail salon. She offered fond old stories of people telling her “if you want to know what is going on in town or the way it used to be, call Stan the Barber, he knows everything.”

These fine art photography prints capture the essence and nostalgia of a traditional American barbershop, presenting a compelling visual narrative that transports the viewer into a bygone era. Traditional barbershop represent a specific piece of American that believes in craftsmanship, and each detail of a shop, from the worn leather upholstery to the barber's tools on display, tells a story of tradition, skill, and the timeless art of grooming. About the prints: all prints are made with a white border to make framing easy with or without a mat.

Limited Edition archival pigments prints are made on Hahnemuhle Baryta fine art paper. Each one is hand numbered and signed.
