So much of cowboy photography focuses on the action - cattle branding, bucking broncs, wild bull rides. And there’s good reason for that but I’ve always been just as attracted to quiet photographs without people that still tell a story. And there’s nothing more capable of doing so than wooden corrals of the American West. In a not so abstract way, corrals can be compared to baseball stadium or basketball arena - a central meeting place where the hard work is done, bonds are forged, and memories made. The old corrals stand silently as relics never asking for attention. Yet they could tell us so much about the history of a place and the generations of people that have spent countless years inside their walls, dedicated to the only lifestyle they ever cared to live.
